Meet a Real Scottish Piper

Steve Curran is your friendly Scottish piper based in Sunny Milwaukee,Wisconsin.
There are lots of pipers out there but it makes sense to go with the real deal! Stevie is fortunate to make a living doing what he enjoys. He sidelines as a software developer whose main passion is playing the bagpipes. Eleven years ago, Stevie came to Milwaukee from a wee village near Glasgow called Bridge of Weir in Scotland.

The Spanglish Band sets an innovative pace, aiming to celebrate a more global audience by extending an invitation to all cultures.

Singing in ENGLISH & SPANISH performing Salsa, Merengue, Latin Rock, Bachata, Cumbia, Funk, Reggaeton, Latin Jazz, R&B and more!

The Spanglish Band has been making waves, as the first of its kind in Milwaukee. Inspired by their hometown community and its diversity the band began to form in 2007, creating a repertoire that would celebrate a more global audience. Performing Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Cumbia, Reggaeton, Funk, R & B and more,the Spanglish Band aims to please!

Spanglish Band sets an innovative pace by extending an invitation to ALL CULTURES performing both American and Latino music. The song list is an eclectic mix of genresand styles sung in both English and Spanish. Once you experience the Spanglish Band, you will be captivated by the phenomenal talent and multiplicity of rhythms.

The band has also been concentrating on original music that is currently being added to performances. The cd they are working on will showcase traditional rhythms, yet incorporate fresh and innovative influences that extend the conventional boundaries. Traditional rhythms have never sounded so good, being spiced up Spanglish style!

Music Related Experience

Jeff has played and performed with the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater jazz big band (1980); the jazz-rock fusion group Introspect in Whitewater, WI (1979-1980); solo jazz guitar at the Charleston, Chicago, IL (1987); solo jazz guitar at Town Square Park in St. Paul (1993); and played with the Anoka-Ramsey Community Jazz Ensemble directed by Greg Lewis (1990-1993). Jeff has also played in numerous rock groups, and has free-lanced for bands at weddings and social functions. While living in the Twin Cities (1990-1995), Jeff performs regularly as a soloist at the Bad Habit Cafe, and has created Sunfish Quartet (guitar, saxophone/flute, bass, drums) to perform a selection of his jazz originals at local venues.

Nord Musikk

Inna has been playing the Norwegian hadanger fiddle since 1993. As a member of the Hardanger Fiddle Association of America, Inna attends their annual workshop where she takes classes taught by master Norwegian and American hardanger fiddle teachers. Inna has also helped promote and organize concerts by master Norwegian fiddlers in the Madison area since 1999, performed for Scandinavian events around Southern Wisconsin and has a monthly meeting of local fiddlers – Fykerudn’s spelemannslag.

As a member of the Norwegian American Folk Music Portal, UW-Madison, Wisconsin Touring Artists and Arts in Education Directory, and WI Folks, Inna has been playing classical violin/fiddle since 1980 and been a member of various community orchestras and currently plays in Dark of the Moon Contrabaand.


In 2005, Oumar released his first music recording and subsequently formed the Sindoolaa African Music band. Calling on influences from Oumar’s home village of Diatock, Casamance (Southern Senegal), the music fuses traditional West African and contemporary roots, enrapturing audiences with a unique sound. The band was filmed by The Africa Channel in Chicago, a one hour show that is now being continuously broadcasted worldwide broadcast worldwide. Sindoolaa will be releasing a CD and a DVD this year.

Sindoolaa music band is composed of musicians native of Senegal (West Africa) and Milwaukee (Wisconsin, USA ), where it is based. The current Sindoolaa members are Oumar Sagna on lead vocals, ekonting, percussions , kalimba and balaphon, Olusegun Sijuwade on Tenor Sax and flute, Kevin Klemme on trumpet, Nickholas Carlson on alto sax and clarinet, James lagrone Jr on trombone, Carl Nichols on rhythm guitar , Jeff Green on lead guitar and second vocals, the two wonderful dancers Miriam Levie and Naima Adedapo on second vocals, John Simons or Patrick patterson on Bass (Bass substitiues: Patrick Patterson and Theodore Stribling , Jeffrey “Oma” Phillips on drum set, Yaya Kambaye or Keba Diebate on Kora, kotiro drums and tama (talking drum), Patrice Nassalang on masquerade dance, Mohamed Sene on Sabar drums and Bougarabou. Not only does Sindoolaa play original music from Oumar’s cultural background, but it also brings you African high life in the styles of African Reggae, Salsa, Soucouss music, and more. David HB Drake

Wisconsin troubadour David HB Drake has spent over twenty-five years presenting concerts at fine arts centers, festivals, schools, community centers and concert stages throughout the Midwest. This panorama of history, natural beauty and discovery is performed on guitar, concertina, dulcimer, banjo, and Native American Flute. David is regularly seen at festivals and tourism sites such as Irish Fest, Bastille Days, County Fairs and local Festivals, Old World Wisconsin and Milwaukee’s Pier Wisconsin. David’s original songs can be heard on the “Simply Folk” programs on Wisconsin Public Radio, and he has been played on folk radio programs from Victoria BC to the Netherlands. David has performed on tall ships on the Atlantic, Pacific, and Great Lakes and is the resident musician for the Wisconsin flagship,  the Lake schooner “Denis Sullivan”.

Amy & The Bass Man

Amy and the Bass Man features 2 vocalists on keys and bass, playing a unique mix of soul, blues and favorite hits.

Brew City Big Band

The Brew City Big Band is a 19-piece big band that performs the music of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, and other big band leaders. We play Swing, Latin, Polka, and Waltz music. The Brew City Big Band recreates the fabulous sounds of the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s.

The band can break down into Big Shots and the Brew City Chasers. This 7 horn band performs Rock, Latin, Disco, Pop, and Country from the ’50s through the ’80’s.

These talented individuals came from several bands with one goal in mind…to bring back the big band sound for all to enjoy. After hearing just one song, you will know that the sound and spirit of the Big Band era is alive and thriving. Close your eyes and imagine traveling back to a time that featured lush and energetic music.

Informal Blues is a quartet from Milwaukee that got its beginnings in 2007 and is still pushing forward. Through several member and genre changes (from blues to jazz, r&b; funk to experimental jam band), the band now finds it comfort in folk/acoustic. Most often seen at the South Shore Farmer’s Market busking, the band has also played venues such as the Bay View Bash, Tosafest, Chill on the Hill, and many more.

From You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown to Jesus Christ Superstar, The Girl In The Frame to Old Wicked Songs, In Tandem has delighted audiences for over a decade with a wide variety of musical selections.

Vanessa Libbey has been a competitive storyteller for years. She’s won many competitions, including weekly tournaments, and in 2009 she won the State Cup for her avid storytelling. Vanessa loves storytelling –

“I think you just have to get a little silly, and not worry about embarrassment, and people will feel free to enjoy themselves with you. Go through real life emotions; storytelling needs to be vital and real. There’s no age cutoff here – everyone enjoys storytelling!”

Also a singer, Vanessa will be heading to Luther College soon after the festival to begin work on her career in opera! Of her extensive storytelling reservoir, Vanessa’s picks for the festival include: Coyote’s Crying Song, Liza Lou and the Yellerbelly Swamp, The Paper Bag Princess, and more!!!
