Milwaukee Domes Art Festival Venue Information - Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservancy
The Milwaukee Domes Art Festival takes place at Mitchell Park a 63 acre park in Milwaukee Wisconsin, home to the world famous Mitchell Park Domes, or as they are more commonly referred to, “The Milwaukee Domes”. The Milwaukee Mitchell Park Domes are cone shaped glass structures covering over 45,000 square feet of botanical garden and horticultural conservancy space. There is a Tropical Dome with tropical plants and animals, an Arid Dome featuring a desert climate and a Show Dome which features changing scenery throughout the year. The domes are home to thousands of species of plants and twenty species of birds, lizards, fish, turtles and other animals.
Construction of the first Milwaukee Dome was finished 1964. Lady Bird Johnson was on hand to commemorate the opening. Construction on the last dome was finished in 1967. In November 2008 the Milwaukee Domes reopened after 4 months of closure for doing repairs and installing a new state of the art lighting system, famous for the beautiful displays that can be seen across Milwaukee’s skyline at night. Find more information on the Milwaukee Domes at the Friends of the Domes website: www.MilwaukeeDomes.org.
